New
OSSGA President Named
The
Board of Directors
of the Ontario Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (OSSGA) is pleased
to announce the appointment of Moreen Miller as the new president
of the association, effective February 11, 2009.
Moreen
joins the OSSGA from Lafarge, one of North America's largest suppliers
of construction materials, where she served as Vice President of
Land for the Aggregates & Concrete Division worldwide.
Prior
to joining Lafarge in 2000, Moreen held a number of other positions
within the aggregate industry in Ontario, including land manager
of Blue Circle Aggregates, a consultant specializing in licensing
and rehabilitation, and a staff member at both the OSSGA (formerly
APAO) and Ministry of Natural Resources.
"Moreen's
recent international experience with the sustainable development
of aggregate operations will bring valuable experience to the association's
mandate of promoting the wise management of Ontario's aggregate
resources," said Incoming Chair of the OSSGA Board of Directors
David Austin.
Moreen
holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of
Guelph and a diploma in Geology from Fleming College. She is an
active member of the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects
and a past president of the Canadian Land Reclamation Association.
Additionally,
Moreen sits on the Niagara Escarpment Commission where she was appointed
commissioner April 2004 for a three-year term and then reappointed
April 2007 for a five-year term.
"Moreen's
contributions to the Commission on such issues as aggregate rehabilitation
and her support for NEC-related research, have brought much insight
to and helped ensure continued dialogue on resource sustainability
in the province," added Austin, who also chairs the OSSGA Sustainability
Initiative where Moreen is an active member.
Moreen
is well known within the aggregate industry and has participated
in many provincial and regional aggregate-related initiatives over
the years.
Given
Moreen's broad industry knowledge and experience, both in Canada
and abroad, the OSSGA looks forward to her guidance in further enhancing
the association's involvement with sustainable resource management
to help build a stronger Ontario.
